Once upon a time Volvo’s were Boxy, slow and safe.  As you can tell by looking at this brand new 2013 Volvo XC60 turbo, Volvos are no longer boxy.And they are certainly not slow but with new safety features like Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, Driver Alert Control, Distance Alert, and the Blind Spot Information System…they are still very safe.

A couple of months ago Dave reviewed a fully tricked-out R-Design Platinum version of the XC60 and just like that vehicle he was struck at how far Volvo has come from the old boxy station wagons that once were the hallmark of the brand in America.

And the best new American endurance pickup is......

The 2013 Ram 1500 Pick-up ( you may remember it as a Dodge)  is virtually all new.

OK, the HEMI engine option remains but same as the new Ram 1500 is now available with the Chrysler Pentastar V-6 engine and a HEMI V-8. For 2013 the Ram also gets a new and class first 8-speed transmission, and optional self-leveling air suspension and (according to Ram) best in class fuel economy.

So just how fast is  the new Ram 1500 is to 60 MPH, and perhaps more importantly how it competes with the best selling vehicle in America...the Ford F-150.

And how does it stacks up against the Chevy Silverado?

Review: The New Ford C-MAX vs Prius V which is the ultimate hybrid endurance ride?

The 2013 Ford C-Max and Toyota Prius V are both family hauling Hybrids. In fact they compete for the exact same buyer.

They both seat 5 people, they both get at least 40 MPG, they both have a gas engine and an electric motor, they both use their brakes to regenerate power back into the batteries that they both also have under and behind the rear seats.

So calling this is a mashup review might be a bit of stretch as both hybrids live and compete in the exact same market segment.

Review: What's the best luxury off-road worthy ride for the active triathlete?

The 2012 Porsche Cayenne S vs and the Infiniti QX56 have at least one thing in common: most owners will never take them off-road. No make that two things in common: They both also have a V8 engine that produces 400 horsepower.

So of course we couldn’t help but wonder which of these very luxurious vehicles is better when the road turns muddy and rough in the Colorado Mountains.

The 2012 KIA Sorento AWD will most likely spend more time in the supermarket parking lot than taking on the the muddy road less traveled.

That's a shame because the 2012 KIA Sorento with All-Wheel-Drive is a very capable off-road ride with hill decent control and even a locking center differential for when the road gets rough.

So to test the KIA instead of taking the Sorento on the paved road more traveled, we decided to see how the Sorento does when in the muddy Colorado Rocky Mountains in this off-road review below.

The 2012 Volvo XC60 R-Design competes with other premium 5 passenger crossovers like the new BMW X3, the new Acura RDX and of course the segment leading Lexus RX350. Compared to those cars the Volvo has a high degree of Swedish flare.

Volvo has a well earned reputation for building safe, sturdy and dependable cars but when you think of sporty and fast all-wheel-drive crossovers...the name Volvo is not the first thing that pops into your mind and yet....

This new Volvo XC60 R-Design is exactly that....a safe, sturdy, dependable, and fast and sporty crossover. From the duel tailpipes, to the low rocker panels and aero body kit you can immediately tell that this is not your father's Swedish brother's Volvo.

Under the hood you'll find a tweaked 3.0L I6 engine that puts out 325 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque. And believe me that's plenty of power for this 5-seater crossover. In fact the turbo-charged engine dials up almost seamless power delivery with just a hint of turbo log to spoil some of the back road fun.
