Hybrid vs. Electric: Today's hybrid technology takes on tomorrow's electric car

Editor's Note: This fun and interesting video is from our sister blog TFLcar.com, and if you watch the video you'll see immediately that it has nothing to do with triathlon but never-the-less it might have a lot to do with the car you'll be driving ten years from now to your local race.

The hybrid car (read Toyota Prius) has been around for ten years.

On the other hand the all electric car has been around pretty much since cars were invented but only recently have they been perfected as a real answer to most people's transportation needs.

So it just seems natural to wonder which technology is better, and which technology is the future.

Colorado Multisport in Boulder, Colorado hosting wildfire relief event

Editor's Note: We just received this email from our friends at Colorado Multisport in Boulder. As you know thousands of people have been forced to flee the Fourmile Canyon wildfire with perhaps hundreds of them losing their homes to the savage fire. Please help if you can, the important "how" and "when" info is below.

All of us at Colorado Multisport are shocked and saddened by the wildfire still burning in the foothills just west of Boulder.  Our hearts go out to the entire community that is affected by this tragedy, and we are in awe of the brave men and women who are risking their lives to fight the blaze. We are reaching out to you, our awesome community of athletes and fans, our family, to bring donations by tomorrow, Thursday night from 4-8pm. 

Video: Massive Boulder Colorado wildfire rages out of control as hundreds are evacuated

Editor's Note: As many of you know Boulder, Colorado (our home town) is the mecca of triathlon. The roads and foothills around Boulder offer some of the most beautiful training the runs and rides in the West that draw hundreds of amateur and pro triathletes. Today a massive wildfire fire threatens many people and homes just West of Boulder. The story is below.

A wildfire that erupted this morning just West of Boulder, Colorado has engulfed at least 3000 acres and forced the evacuation of hundreds of people.

According to local officials several hundred people have already been evacuated and numerous structures including homes have burned down to the ground. Huge plumes of smoke from the massive fire can be seen from as far away as Denver, Colorado.

Meet the new 2011 Ford Explorer.

Coming to a dealership near you in a few months. Ford recently rolled out the all new 2011 Explorer and unlike models in the past the new Explorer is much more of a crossover instead of a traditional SUV.

That means the new Explorer may not tow as much weight, but it still offers seating for seven and plenty of room for bikes and gear with the third row seats stowed.

More breaking endurance news you can use thanks to Twitter

Everyday we try to bring you the most interesting news, people, and perspectives from the the worlds of swimming, cycling, running and of course triathlon....to name just a few.

But obviously we can't post it all so we're trying something new thanks to our Danny Ward, our British Bureau chief.

Danny is an endurance sports tweeting mad man (we mean that in the best way) and we're thrilled to add his wonderful services to our twitter feed.

Paul Martin finishes the Comrades Marathon for needy Kenyan kids

Editor's Note:  Our friend Paul Martin ran the very challenging Comrades Marathon in South Africa recently and filed this report as he ran the challenge of his life. Paul is holding his medal in the lower right corner of this photo.

Weeks ago I questioned the authenticity of all this hype I’d heard about and read about the Comrades Marathon. Last week, at the 85th running of “The Ultimate Human Race,” that hype was justified.

Every aspect of this race lived up to it’s reputation, a reputation mostly hidden from Americans, even the vast majority of our marathoners. South Africans, particularly the host Durbanites, tell you the race will pull you back for another crack, despite how good or bad you felt on race day. I found it hard to believe that the famed Heartbreak Hill in Boston hardly showed up on the superimposed course profile…until I ran it. The yet-to-be-released documentary we watched the day before instilled a concern not yet realized in these bones.

Biggest Loser finale strange outcome: Biggest loser isn't the biggest winner

By now you probably know that Michael Ventrella took home a cool quarter of a million dollars as the winner of this season Biggest Loser.

He started out at 526 pounds and lost 264 pounds for a final weight of 262 pounds, or more importantly he lost just a tad over 50 percent of his original body.

The 50 percent number (percentage of his original body weight) is crucial because that's how the Biggest Loser contestants are always judged.

In other words, it is the percentage of body fat loss that determines everything in the show.

Koli Palu was the at-home winner this year and walked away with $100,000 but (and this is the part that's strange) he actually lost a bigger percentage of body weight than Ventrella.

He started on the show at 403 pounds with a final weight last night of 188. He lost a total of 215 pounds or 53.35 percent of his original body weight.

13-year-old California teen becomes the youngest ever to summit Mount Everest

Like many 13-year-olds Jordan Romero picked up the phone on Saturday and called his mom, but unlike many teens he said, "Mom, I'm calling you from the top of the world."

The phone was a Satellite phone and Jordan was standing on the top of the world.

The 13-year-old from Big Bear, California had just broken the record set by a 16-year-old Nepalese man, to become the youngest climber ever to summit the world highest mountain at 29,035 feet (8,850 meters) above sea level.

No, for 18-year-old Collin Miron it's just about his dad, his family, and his community.

The young aspiring racer was recently granted a lifelong dream (or better word might be wish) by the Make-A-Wish foundation of Colorado to pursue his lifelong racing ambition.

You see Collin was born with Cystic Fibrosis, or CF, which is a hereditary disease that effects about 30,000 Americans killing many in their 20s and 30s.

Boulder, Colorado artist inspired by the beauty of the bike

Editor's Note: Our Boulder based artist friend, Mike Brouse, who's an avid cyclist and all around great guy has been inspired to paint a collection of oil paintings all based on local bikes.

Mike rides his old 2100 Trek road bike around Boulder looking for potential subjects for his paintings.  When he sees an interesting bike he will stop and snap some pics using his camera phone.
