COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - With six Americans on the start list, the final ITU World Triathlon Series stop before the 2012 Olympic Games is set for this weekend with the Dextro Energy World Triathlon Hamburg.
With the London Games on the horizon, the sprint-distance Hamburg event features a 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike and 5-kilometer run. The men's race is set for 12:25 p.m. Eastern on Saturday, followed by the women at 10 a.m. Eastern on Sunday.
Lukas Verzbicas (Colorado Springs, Colo.) makes his second WTS start on the heels of a sixth-place finish at last weekend's ITU Tiszaujvaros World Cup. Fellow USA Triathlon Project 2016 program members Greg Billington (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Joe Maloy (Wildwood Crest, N.J.) round out the American men on the start list. On the women's side, U.S. Olympic Triathlon Team member Sarah Groff (Hanover, N.H.) will make her final start before the Aug. 4 women's Olympic Games triathlon. She was seventh last time out at last month's ITU World Triathlon Kitzbühel and stands 24th in the series rankings through four events. Visit triathlon.org for a complete women's start list.
Following next month's Olympic Games triathlon events, the ITU World Triathlon Series resumes Aug. 25-26 in Stockholm, Sweden.
