American professional triathete Andy Potts tore through the field today to win Ironman Cozumel in a course breaking record time of 8:16:14.
The Colorado Springs, Colorado based triathlete was first out of the water, and and stayed ahead for most of the three-loop bike course, while crushing the marathon to beat second place Boulder, Colorado based triathlete Michael Lovato by about six minutes.
Rounding out the podim was Argentine triathlete Eduardo Sturla who finished in a time of 8:24:48.
On the women's side of the race Dutch triathete Yvonne Van Vlerken defended her 2009 title by winning the race with a strong run in a time of 9:07:25 ahead of American pro Tyler Stewart.
While Stewart stuggled during the second half of the marathon, American triathlete Amanda Stevens came close to Stewart at the end of the race but eventually took the third podium position.
