Recently American marathon runner and American half marathon record holder (59:43 for the half if you are curious) Rynn Hall tweeted this:
"Lance Armstrong to race triathlon in 2011 http://bit.ly/c2jVcV (via @velonews)=> How about a relay first; with me and Phelps!"
Which got us thinking this interesting thought: do you suppose it would be possible for the all American triathlon relay dream team to break the 7 hour mark at the Kona Ironman World Championships?
Here's the potential triathlon dream team and their potential times.
- Michael Phelps swims the 2.4 miles in 45 minutes
- Lance Armstrong bikes the 112 miles in 4 hours
- Rynn Hall runs the marathon in 2:15
If you add that up you end up with a Kona Ironman total time of 7-hours.
Of course we're still not all the way to the record mark because of transitions. Which of course means that each member might have to go a minute or two faster to be able to crack the 7-hour mark.
Will this ever happen?
Probably not...but it would sure be fun to watch these guys go for the record.
It would also be fun to have both the men's and women's relay race. Who would you have represent the United States on the women's side of the race?
We say that the Kona Ironman World Championships need a relay category and that each country which participates in the sport of triathlon should bring their own dream relay team to the race.
