You've probably seen and read the annual stories that rank America's best and worst cities.
You know stories with headlines like:
"Best town to raise a family"
"Top Ten cities to grow old in"
"Top Towns to to ride your bike"
or just
"Ten Best cities in America"
So naturally we were curious as as to what our readers considered the "Worst Place" and "Best Place" to Train is in America.
You voted and the results are in:
The third worst place to train in America is: New York, New York
The second worst place to train in America is Houston, Texas
And according to our reader poll the #1 worst place to train in America is: Detroit, Michigan
We selected the Top Ten Worst Places to Train based upon towns and cities that are unfriendly, and perhaps unkind to amateur endurance athletes.
Places that don't have bike friendly roads or convenient running trails. Towns and cities that suffer from pollution, congestion, crime and severe weather such as cold, heat or rain.
For instance Juneau, Alaska is a lovely town, but it is landlocked and it rains 300 days per year.
Houston, Texas with its many wide highways is certainly car friendly, but not so much when it comes to riding your bike after work.
Las Vegas and Atlantic City are great places to gamble, but it is very hot in Las Vegas most of the year and very cold in the winter and humid in the summer in Atlantic City.
In general, these are places that amateur endurance athletes might have a difficult time training if they structure their daily routine around swimming, cycling and running.
