Have you ever wondered how much you'd have to pay to own a Tour de France stage champion's bike?
The answer is apparently 10,722 Australian dollars, or about $7,000 U.S dollars at today's exchange rate.
At least that how much Robbie McEwen's Silence Lotto team Ridley Noah road bike sold for today on eBay in Australia.
From the eBay listing:
"You are bidding on Robbie McEwen's Silence Lotto team Ridley Noah road bike as used in the Tour De France. The bike still has Robbie's original frame number in tact with his signature on the top bar as seen in photos. As a pure sprinter, McEwen's main requirement of his bike is stiffness rather than weight savings, and indeed, one of Ridley's primary design goals for the Noah was maximizing frame rigidity."
Background Story
During last year's Tour de France, SBS ran a competition to win this bike. The lady who won this bike had the good sense to contact us at MR Cycling World to sell it on her behalf.
She promises us a certificate of Authenticity is on it's way from Ridley/SBS - when this arrives we are not too sure, but be assured it will be passed on to the winning bidder.
Robbie McEwen is one of Australia's best ever cyclists. The winner of multiple stages in the Tour de France as well as the coveted Green Jersey (awarded to the best sprinter throughout the 3 week Tour) McEwen has left his mark on the world of professional cycling. A professional for more than 10 years, McEwen is known as a hardened sprinter who is keenly sought after on the trade-team market. He currently rides for the Belgian team Silence-Lotto, which many of you will also know as Cadel Evans' team.
