Here's a question you probably don't hear too often, "So what do you think is the world record for running a marathon dressed as a clown?"
In case you are wondering the Guinness Book of Records says the fastest time any clown has ever ran the 26.2 mile marathon distance is 3 hours and 24 minutes.
But that illustrious record may fall this weekend as a British man is getting ready to make clown endurance history.
Paul Fernandez is getting his make up, wig and clown nose tuned up for the Gloucester Marathon on Sunday,
According to the Oxford Mail Fernandez said, “My personal best is two hours 39 minutes, which I did at Abingdon last year. Gloucester is a small marathon and the winner only did it in two hours 53 minutes last year, so in theory I could be near the front, which could be a bit embarrassing"
The 34-year-old Biology teacher has not told his students about his upcoming record breaking run, but got the idea when he was checking out current clown endurance records.
“I was looking through world records and I saw that some kid had got one for putting 14 snails on his face or something like that and I thought ‘if he can do that, I want to get a record."
The Oxford mail goes on to report that, "His first attempt at a world record was a relay triathlon, which included running from Newcastle to Dover, swimming the English Channel and cycling to Gibraltar.
However, it was not ratified by the Guinness Book Records, due to the difficulty of challengers retracing the route."
As the news anchors would say, "Fernandez can't be clowning around if he wants to break the marathon clown record this weekend."
