Editor's Note: The annual Boulder Beer Mile takes place in Boulder, Colorado at an undisclosed location. Some of the best and fastest triathletes beer drinkers in the world race for one mile while downing four beers---one for every lap of the track.
This year dozens of the top triathletes tribeerthletes from around the globe gathered for the New Year's installment of the Boulder Beer Mile to race for one mile at a "secret and undisclosed location"
Unfortunately for those professional triathletes trying to keep this beer race a secret, the track (were they race and imbibe) just happens to be at our editor's son's elementary school.
The track is old, and truth be told a bit slanted. OK, a lot slanted. But we suspect that by the third lap and third beer this slant almost seems natural to many of the tribeerthletes.
We proud to report that our 2008 "Triathlete of the Year" Joanna Zeiger continued her winning streak by crushing the competition with the fastest womens Boulder Beer Mile time of exactly about nine minutes.
Josh Shadle, a local message therapist, won the mens race with a time of 6:36 as reported by 5430Tri on SlowTwitch.com.
You can check out more photos of the race, more of the tribeerthletes, and the story behind this annual Boulder tradition on the Blog Daily Espresso.
But what's really a bit "pathetic" (not our word) is that Lars (who writes the Blog Daily Espresso) actually trained for this race. Just click over to his Blog and scroll down a bit.
But what is perhaps what's even more pathetic is the Boulder Beer Mile trophy.
We're not really sure about the triathlon specific companies---but we'd be willing to bet that Coors would love to sponsor the 2009 race ;-)
