It is of course that time of year when reporters and columnist look back at the year and chronicle the best moments.
For women and running, the Examiner's Jennifer Gill picked 5 moments of 2008 that stand really stand out.
We couldn't help but notice that her Top 5 moments of running included Chrissie Wellington's lighting fast Ironman Kona run.
But the one moment that really grabbed our attention was Joan Benoit Samuelson run at this year's Boston Marathon.
According to the Gill's list:
"Joan Benoit Samuelson still has what it takes. Joan Benoit Samuelson is one of the most influential figures in the sport of running, for both men and women. But in 1984, she was the shining star for young girls everywhere, proving women could be contenders among a sport completely dominated by men. At the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, Joan won the first-ever women's marathon and changed the course of many lives, including my own, forever. Fast forward to the Olympic trials in Boston in April of 2008. Joan, a spry 50-year old, was toeing the line in her fourth Olympic Marathon Trials. She finished in 2:49.08, putting her 90th among the 124 finishers, and giving her an American record for the women’s 50-54 age group. Just thinking about it gives me goose bumps. What a runner!"
