Two Kiwis win final ITU World Cup Triathlon in Mexico

New Zealand triathletes Kris Gemmell and Sam Warrine won the final ITU BG World Cup of the season in Mexico.

Gemmell bided his time on the run, staying on the shoulder of Jarrod Shoemaker (USA) and Laurent Vidal (FRA) before comfortably running clear to win by 9 seconds.

Warriner ended her season in style with a commanding victory that earned her the world number one ranking for the year.

A Pair of First-Timers Win Marine Corps Marathon

On the men's side Andrew Dumm broke away from his more experienced competitors and went on to win the 33rd Marine Corps Marathon in 2 hours 22 minutes 42 seconds.

Another marathon novice, Cate Fenster, from Wooster, Ohio, led wire to wire and won the women's race in 2:48:53, holding off Arlington's Lindsay Wilkins by 11 seconds.

Radcliffe Ready to Defend her New York Marathon Title

Paula Radcliffe showed that she's back in form after her disappointing Beijing Olympics by winning the ten-mile BUPA Great South Run in a time of 51:11.

“The only thing to recover from in Beijing was that I wasn’t in shape, I hadn’t done enough running,” she said.

Paula Radcliffe believes she's back in shape, and she hopes to win the 10-mile Bupa Great South Run in Portsmouth, England tomorrow --- her first race since her ill-fated attempt at the Olympic marathon in Beijing.

The St. Croix Ironman 70.3 will offer qualifying slots for both the Ford Ironman World Championship in Kona and the Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3 in Clearwater in 2009.

The race recently agreed to a multi-year extension with Ironman to continue to be one of the few Ironman 70.3 races to give participants a chance to qualify for two World Championship events.

What do the Chicago and San Francisco Marathons have in common?

Here we go again.

It turns out that San Francisco marathon "co-winner" Arien O'Connell is a Chicagoan where, as you may recall, they held a marathon a few weeks ago.

But guess what?

According to the Chicago Tribune the 4th place "finisher" of the race, Wesley Korir, started in the open group "but finished with the fourth-fastest time of the day as measured by a system that uses a chip in the shoe to record the moment the runner passes the start and the finish."

When you think about it racing the Ironman World Championships in Kona in a wheelchair, and hand cycle is no different from racing the traditional way.

You still have to cover some 144 miles, plus you still have to make all of the time cutoffs.

You still have to swim 2.4 miles, and you still have to worry about your fitness, nutrition and hydration.

You just have to cover all of that ground using you arms.
