But how do you tell how fit you are when it comes to endurance sports? And more importantly how can you tell when your body is ready to race at max performance levels?
These are questions I put to 1) an exceptional athlete and 2) an expert who knows the answers.
I spoke with Beth Shutt just before she got on the podium at the Best of the U.S. Triathlon Championships for amateur athletes this past weekend. She has used heart rate based training and racing for years in conjunction with Mark Allen with great success.
I also spoke with Corey Cornacchio from Polar. Polar knows a thing or two about heart rate monitors and training with heart rate as they have always been in the forefront of the industry.
Corey has spent much of his career with Polar, and he certainly shed a great deal of light on using heart rate monitors to increase performance.
