Ironman Michael Stone races for a young girl in New Zealand who spends more time in the hospital in one year than you or I will mostly likely spend in a lifetime. The clock of her life span ticks away at twice or even three times the usual rate. This brave young girl has Cystic Fibrosis, a terrible genetic disorder that robs her of her life's breath at a very early age.
Cystic Fibrosis is also the official charity of the New Zealand Ironman, which is just few short days away. On a recent afternoon I sat down with Michael Stone and asked him about the race, his charity and about what it is like to race for something beyond just the finish line.
If you are also interested in racing in 2006, for something beyond just the finishing line, I would highly recommend that you visit Michael's charity and learn about how you can contribute to a great cause of your own choosing.
The Active Awareness Fund is a non-profit that allows you to race and at the same time raise money for your favorite charity. It is a great organization that's building a community of like minded triathletes. Please visit Michael's web site to get an early start on spreading the joy beyond our little world.
In the meantime sit back and relax and listen to this great preview of the 2006 Ironman New Zealand. Not only will you learn about Michael's young friend but you'll also get a great perspective on the race from someone who has finished it three times.
