Running the Boston Marathon for Haitian Orphans

Editor's Note: Our friend Paul Shippey will soon be running his dream race in Boston, but he's not just doing it for himself. Paul's also raising money to help the orphans in Haiti. His story and reason for running are below:

The earthquake that devastated Haiti continues to bring untold suffering and misery to the people of Haiti, and in particular, the orphan population which more than quadrupled overnight!

I have been fortunate to have first hand contact with some newly adopted children through my friend Elizabeth Dowling, whose newly adopted daughter Jenna, was featured on CNN shortly after the quake struck! ( CNN video links below)

A 9-year-old races to save her father's life

The Story behind the story:

On September 21 of this year 9-year-old Winter Vinecki, a resident of Gaylord Michigan, honored her dad's fight against prostate cancer as the youngest competitor/fundraiser in the Athletes for a Cure Triathlon in Orlando. Winter was given a ten-minute head start in front of the 1,000 athletes waiting for the start of the event.

Today we continue with the story of a father and triathlete: Jerry

His story is told by his buddy Scott Philbrick:

My friend's name is Jerry. We've known each other for many years. We lived next door to each other, had kids together, played golf together and went on vacations together. He first introduced me to the sport of triathlon although I didn't actively participate until several years later.

Write2Fight v.2: Write makes Right

Last year a group of caring bloggers got together and started a blog called Write2Fight.com. The group was lead by the blogger Bolder in Boulder, and their goal was to raise money for the fight against cancer, while at the same time paying respect to all of the people who fought the good fight and lost.

The blog featured the brave stories of people who battled disease from the point of view of their loved ones with gently written tributes and photos of their lives and their battles.  Unfortunately, the Write2Fight.com web site is no longer active.
