A new comprehensive report on the nation's weight crisis offers a stunning conclusion: Americans just keep getting fatter and fatter, and with the added weight gain comes an increase in both Type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure.
While many amateur endurance athletes know that weight is the enemy of performance, many Americans seem to just keep piling on the pounds.
According to the recent report (by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Trust for America's Health) titled "F as in Fat," 16 states are experiencing steep increases in adult obesity.
When you look at it year by year, the changes are incremental," said Jeffrey Levi, executive director of the Trust for America's Health. But if you back up a generation and look at the slow but steady climb of Americans weight, he added, "you see how we got into this problem."
