Craig "Crowie" Alexander has won the Ironman World Championships 3 times. That sort of legacy can weight heavily on a Ironman triathlete.
This year Alexander came into the 2012 Ironman World Championships as one of the favorites. Hot and windy conditions on the course made it hard on everyone but Alexander pushed on to cross the finishline in 12th place.

The 2012 Ironman World Championships is a brutal Ironman Triathlon but British Triathlete Leanda Cave most likely thinks it is the best race in the world today. Not only did she win the 2012 Ironman World Championships today but just a few weeks ago she also won the Ironman 70.3 World Championships.
She won the race on the run chasing down Swiss Triathlete Caroline Steffen who crossed the line in second place and holding off 2010 Ironman World Champion Mirinda Carfrae who crossed the line in third place. Check out this video to watch all three women cross the line in Kona, Hawaii.

The 2012 Ironman World Championships are in the books and the dust has yet to settle but Pete Jacobs is having one of the best days of his life. The Professional Australian triathlete won today's Ironman World Championship in a time of 8:18 ahead of second place finisher German Triathlete Andrea Raelrt and Belgium 3rd place finisher Frederick Van Lierde. Kailua-Kona, Hawaii (October 11, 2012) - The 2012 IRONMAN® World Championship presented by myList is set to take place Saturday, October 13th in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. Nearly 2,000 athletes from 50 states & 64 countries will swim 2.4 miles in the Pacific Ocean, cycle 112 miles through the iconic lava fields of Kailua-Kona and run 26.2 miles finishing on the scenic waterfront of Ali’i Drive. This year’s field is packed with compelling stories and information including the fact that 53% of the competitors will be competing in Kona for the first time (1,086 participants) - 71% of those first timers are men and 29% are female.
Lance Armstrong was hoping to race the 2012 Ironman World Championships until he was banned from the race earlier this due for doping at the Tour de France. Three time Ironman World Champion Alexander decided to go for a repeat Kona race win in part because he was hoping to race Armstrong.
At today's pre race Ironman World Championship professional press conference Alexander talked about not racing Armstrong, doping and the upcoming race.Check out the video below.
