Is this why Lance decided to race Ironman this year?

Just under a year ago Lance Armstrong announced that he would not be racing Kona in 2011 on twitter.

In hopes of changing his mind Ben Greenfield came up with the Top Ten Reasons why the 7-time TdF champ should consider the race. Perhaps, just perhaps, Lance read Ben's list and took it to heart. Or it could be that his first sport was triathlon, and he wants to raise cancer awareness.

But we're going with the Ben's list...which BTW...is below:

 #10: The Chamois Is Thinner. Let's face it, Lance - that thick, bulky chamois lining the underside of your bike shorts may make the daily Tour de France long haul a bit more comfortable, but it ultimately looks like a chunky diaper when you're not on the bike, and us triathletes are all about sexiness over function. So we have a nice, thin, quick-drying chamois you can wear - and as a bonus, it won't leave hemorrhoid-sized cheek chafing after the marathon.

Is Lance Armstrong racing Ironman Panama 70.3 this weekend?

Lance Armstrong just tweeted a link to the Van Halen video above. The video is of course for the classic rock song "Panama"

And speaking of Panama...the Ironman 70.3 race in Panama also happens to be this Sunday. So we can't help but wonder out loud if seven time TdF champ is finally making the jump from off-road (XTERRA) triathlons to the Ironman races.

Time will certainly tell.

Feds close 2.5 year doping investigation into Lance Armstrong without filing charges

Lance Armstrong is possibly breathing a sigh of relief today as Federal prosecutors have closed their 2.5 year criminal doping investigation into the seven-time Tour de France champion without filing any charges.

United States Attorney André Birotte Jr. announced in a press release that his office “is closing an investigation into allegations of federal criminal conduct by members and associates of a professional bicycle racing team owned in part by Lance Armstrong.”

The Associated Press is reporting that:

Video: IM World Champion Craig Alexander takes a spill on a Mechanical Bull at CES

This video is a bit of a funny commercial for one of Ironman Champions Craig Alexander's sponsors (Jabra), but on the other hand watching Crowie try to ride a mechanical bull is certainly entertaining.

However, he should probably stick with his day job, and the camera guy (or gal) shooting this video should stick will shooting the main subject of the video...or they might just miss the best part.

Chrissie Wellington's top tips on how to find your swim, bike & run motivation muse

It can be challenging to get motivated to swim, bike, and run in middle of winter. 

But Chrissie Wellington has some interesting tips in THIS recent story in Britain's Guardian Newspaper.

Of course the one tip that we found especially useful was, "I also have a dog-eared copy of Rudyard Kipling's poem If – and I write lines from it on my water bottles when I race."

In case you are having a hard time finding your triathlon training and racing muse, below is the poem that Chrissie keeps close to her heart. Feel free to write some of the lines on your morning mirror, fridge door, or even your water bottle.

Chrissie Wellington is definitely NOT pregnant

In what must be one of the funniest tweets of the day, Chrissie Wellington recently tweeted that she's not pregnant.

The temporarily retired 4X World Ironman Champion tweeted after she announced her break from Ironman racing HERE, "And no, for those who have asked, or were wondering, i am not pregnant!"

So she's definitely NOT pregnant, but we suspect the real question is with all this new time of her hands, and at least a full year of not racing...will she still be NOT...well you know...at the end of this year?

Just saying Chrissie.....

Lance Armstrong teases racing Kona in 2012

At an appearance at a Canadian Tire outlet today to promote a line of fitness equipment, Lance Armstrong strongly suggested that he has his sights set on the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii this year.

When asked if he would be racing in Hawaii in October Armstrong said, "It’s interesting, it’s appealing," he said. “How possible is it to do well? I don’t know. That’s what I’m exploring."

The seven time Tour de France Champion added when asked if he's preparing for a new triathlon career, "I don’t know if I would say I’m preparing for another career, but I’m definitely preparing for a triathlon."

He went on to point people to his twitter feed when asked about his training and racing goals.

"XTERRA World Champs next wknd. I'm in!" Lance Armstrong Tweets

"XTERRA World Champs next wknd. I'm in! Looking fwd to racing,'' the seven-time Tour de France winner tweeted Sunday, a week before the XTERRA World Championships in Maui.

The seven time Tour de France champion finished 5th last month at the XTERRA USA Championship in Ogden, Utah.

After the Utah XTERRA Armstrong said, "It's a challenge. ... At 40 years old I guess I could have gone home, drank beer and played golf all day long. But it's good to come out and test yourself with these young guys and support a sport that I think is really cool."

Video: Lance Armstrong celebrates on Slip n' Slide after winnnig 1st tri in decades

It's been about 25 years since Lance Armstrong won a triathlon, but that all changed a few days ago when Armstrong won the Four Peaks Urban Dirt Triathlon in Tempe, Arizona.

The seven time Tour de France champion crossed the finishline first ahead of local local pro triathlete Lewis Elliot.

As you may recall from THIS story, Armstrong made his return to triathlon in Utah a few weeks ago by taking fifth place at the XTERRA U.S. Championship in Ogden.

The Queen of Ironman signs a new book deal

Hachette Book Group just announced that they will be publishing a book entitled A Life Without Limits by 3X Ironman World Champion Chrissie Wellington.

According to the press release the book is, "Chrissie’s firsthand account of her unlikely rise to the top. In addition to her personal story, Chrissie shares training tips, stories and lessons from around the globe, and what it takes to be a champion in competitive sport."

The book is scheduled for publication in May 2012 in the Center Street imprint so look for it at your local book store next summer.

Swimsuit Photo: Lance Armsrong looks fit and ready to race XTERRA next weekend

Timex triathlon team member Kyle Marcotte recently posted this photo on his Timex team blog and recounted a recent Masters swim session he swam with the seven time Tour De France winner.

In his blog post Marcotte writes:

"It is well known that Lance began his athletic career as a swimmer, then triathlete before his cycling career took off.  Lance was a legitimate top pro-triathlete at a very young age.  Still though, I wasn’t expecting him to swim as fast as he did.  We did a total of 3,100m, with the main set being 15x100m on 1:40, 25m pool (meaning we started a new 100m every 1:40). Approximately half of the intervals were to be “fast”, and half were “easy.”  It soon became evident that Lance is quite the swimmer as he was doing his “fast” intervals at approximately 1:02, and his easy intervals on approximately 1:11."
