He's won the Ironman 70.3 World Championships twice, but now German IM champ Michael Raelert has set his sights on the seven time Tour de France Champion...Lance Armstrong.
On his FaceBook page that he shares with his brother, Michael Raelert has just announced that he's dropping out of the upcoming IM 70.3 in Puerto Rico in favor of racing Lance Armstrong at the April 1st at the Memorial Hermann Ironman 70.3 Texas.
The Raelerts wrote on FaceBook:
"We would like to inform you today about a change in the racing schedule. Michael does not start as originally planned at 70.3 Jeep in San Juan, Puerto Rico, but will kick start his racing year April 1st at Memorial Hermann Texas Ironman 70.3.
In Texas Michael Raelert will face strong competition: At the U.S. Championships Chris Lieto will race as the defending champion with start number 1 . Moreover, after the strong second place with the Ironman 70.3 Panama the sevenfold winner of the tour de France and triathlon repatriate Lance Armstrong would like to come on the podium."
It looks like it will be a good old-fashioned Texas barn-burner of a race in two weeks in Galveston. Stay Tuned!
