JUST ANNOUNCED: Three-time and current Ford Ironman® World Champion Chrissie Wellington will be competing in the Challenged Athletes Foundation® (CAF) 2011 Aspen Medical Products San Diego Triathlon Challenge on Sunday, Oct. 23. Chrissie will be participating along-side elite challenged athletes.
The San Diego Triathlon Challenge (SDTC) is a celebration of life and sport that is making a difference in the lives of physically challenged athletes around the world. SDTC is an event unlike any other in the world and this year features a new “challenge distance,” consisting of a 1 mile swim, 44 mile bike, and 10 mile run. More than 200 challenged athletes will compete side-by-side with 500 able-bodied athletes, including other celebrities and sports legends like Bianca Kajlich, Bill Walton, and Scott Tinley.
In addition to participating and raising awareness for CAF, Wellington has graciously donated her 2010 Cannondale Slice Hi-Mod to the SDTC silent auction. This is the bike that Wellington rode to break the World Ironman distance record at Challenge Roth 2010, crossing the finish line in 8 hours, 19 minutes. “I really hope that the auction of this special bike raises a substantial amount of money for this incredibly worthy cause,” Wellington states. “And that the bike gives the winning bidder as much pleasure as it has given me!”
