Haile Gebrselassie's three-year-old marathon record of of 2:03:59 fell in Berlin this weekend as Kenya's Patrick Makau crossed the finish line of the Berlin Marathon in 2:03:38 beating the Ethiopian's 2008 record marathon run.
"I had no problems today," said Makau after crossing the finish line under the Brandenburg Gate.
"Today everything went well. What I can say is that we have started a new generation in marathon," he added.
Haile Gebrselassie failed to finish the race.
