The FINIS Snorkel is a great training tool for swimmers and triathletes. When you're training with the snorkel, there's no need to turn your head to breath which can help eliminate strain on your neck, back and shoulders.
Not turning your head to breath also allows you to work on form and gives you more time to feel what your proper body position in the water should be. It will probably take you a few hundreds yards of swimming to get the right breathing rhythm.
One thing to avoid is flip turns. It's difficult to coordinate holding your breath, kicking off the wall and then clearing the tube of water when you change directions. I like to add the snorkel to my longer pull sets to practice maintaining that perfect line. It helps me focus on the catch and pull. And since you're not concerned with lifting your head to breath, you can ditch the kick board.
While this can be great training aid for the competitive swimmer or triathlete, recreational swimmers or people new to swimming can utilize this aid too.
