A new North American full Ironman race (to be held in the summer of 2012 in Quebec) will be announced on Monday according to published reports.
The Canadian web site Cyberpressa.ca is reporting that officials of the ski resort of Mont-Tremblant in Quebec, Canada will hold a press conference at the start of next week to announce the new race slated for August of 2012.
"A new international sporting event that will radiate Greater Mount Tremblant and will generate major economic benefits," will ne announced at the Casino de Mont-Tremblant on Monday according to a notice sent out recently.
"Mayor of Mont-Tremblant, Pierre Pilon, will be there, along with Michelle Courchesne, honorary co-chair of the event and Minister responsible for the Laurentides region, suggesting a financial contribution from the Government of Quebec . Pierre Lavoie, triple winner of the Ironman Hawaii in his age category, the other will be honorary chairman. The celebrated founder of the Grand Challenge which bears his name will also attend the press conference," Cyberpressa.ca is reporting in French.
The new Quebec Ironman (Ironman Mont-Tremblant) race would be only the second Ironman held in Canada after the long running Ironman Canada which takes place in Penticton Canada every summer.
Currently many Ironman Athletes from Quebec travel to Lake Placid, New York to race the long running East Coast Ironman.
