All 50 States and 13 countries are represented this year's annual Chevron Houston Marathon, and the Aramco Houston Half Marathon.
Combined runners will travel a distance greater than from here to the moon and back as they take on the 26.2 mile and 13.1 mile challenge.
“It’s a spectacular event for both participants and spectators,” said Steven Karpas, managing director of the Houston Marathon Committee. “We anticipate racers will raise more than $1.5 million for charity.”
According to The Courier:
"While new Houston Marathon record times were set in 2009 by Ethiopians Merga Deriba (men’s -2:07:52) and Teyba Erkesso ( womens-2:24:18), the average marathon time is around four hours and 20 minutes for men and four hours and 45 minutes for women. Race officials will shut the course down around 1 p.m.
