It's one of those races that seems to get the best athletes in the sport of triathlon.
And 2010 is no exception as Ironman champ Chrissie Wellington has just confirmed her intention to defend last year's win at the the K-Swiss Ironman 70.3 Kansas Triathlon.
"Kansas 70.3 has everything I look for in a race: a strong pro field; a beautiful, challenging course; heaps of enthusiastic spectators; dedicated support for charitable causes and an awesome, vibrant community spirit," Wellington said.
"Running along the 'yellow brick road finish line' last June topped off an incredible journey somewhere over the rainbow, and I cannot wait to come back and defend the Kansas crown this year," she added.
Besides Wellington other winning triathletes who have raced in Kansas include Australian athletes Craig Alexander and Pip Taylor.
“Having an athlete like Chrissie at our event adds to the great festive, family atmosphere of this race. She is such a wonderful ambassador for our sport and she brings such great enthusiasm and competitive spirit to the race," race director, Tom Ziebart said
"We look forward to clicking her running shoes three times at the finish line and saying – ‘There’s No Place like Home,’”, race director, Tom Ziebart said.
OK guys, please enough with Wizard of Oz references. We get it. Do you really want to keep making references to a movie that famously featured a tornado. Especially after what happened the first year of the race?
