(Andy Potts chats with fans before the start of the race)
By all accounts American triathlete Andy Potts was having one of the best racing years of his career. He had either won, or placed on the podium, in about every triathlon he's raced this year and that includes the grueling and hazardous Escape from Alcatraz race in San Francisco.
Ukraine's Viktor Zyemtsev and Germany's Nina Kraft won the third
annual Ford Ironman Louisville Triathlon. Zyemtsev crossed the finish
line is an overall time of 8:25:27. Kraft won her race in 9:20:21. Both
triathletes dueled strong competition during the marathon portion of
the race winning with just a few minutes to spare.

Over 9000 athletes are taking on the 27th

When asked what advice he has for athletes racing on today, Hunter Kemper (seen here as he promotes Chicago's Olympic bid at triathlon), and a favorite to win the race said,
Having been to quite a few triathlon training "camps" in my day, I've picked
up several benefits of attending a good triathlon camp. If you're
deliberating about whether to attend an off-season training camp, then keep
reading - this could make your decision much easier.
1) You don't have to be an elite athlete to go to camp.
Just over one month...that's how long British Comedian Eddie Izzard trained to run 40 consecutive marathons.
Izzard, a well know British stand-up comedian and actor now ultra-marathon runner.
Izzard is running around England to raise money for charity and perhaps living the Ultra runner dream.
Alright, please listen up all of you Ultra types and that especially includes you Eddie Izzard as you run your 40 marathons in about as many days: a new study found (and you probably already know this) that excessive (read ultra) exercise can be addicting just like heroin and other drugs.
"Excessive running shares similarities with drug-taking behavior," the researchers wrote in the August issue of Behavioral Neuroscience, published by the American Psychological Association.
Editor's Note: It seems like a lifetime ago that Hurricane Wilma (October of 2005) tore a swath through central, Florida but as we approach the fall hurricane and Ironman season we thought you might enjoy this tale of how Roman Mica raced his first Iron distance triathlon with HurricaneWilma setting the stage for a dramatic race day.
The sweat dripping down forehead, over my nose and onto my lips had
the rank taste of defeat. If I was the crying type, I would have been
balling my eyes out. My stomach felt sick, the kind of sick you feel
when the phone rings in the middle of the night. Because you know
nobody ever calls with good news in the middle of the night.
Recently we broke (some may say confirmed ;-) the story that Lance Armstrong plans on returning to his first racing love: Triathlon...specifically Ironman triathlon. (See the video below)
So how does Craig Alexander, the current Kona Ironman World Champion, feel about one day (perhaps very soon) going toe to toe with the seven-time Tour de France winner in Kona?
"Team
RadioShack to make their debut at the Tour down Under. Lance's first
race for the Shack," is what the team Radio Shack just announced on
Twitter.
But the cycling world is abuzz with the news that Floyd Landis (who
currently rides for team Ouch) could be riding again at Lance
Armstrong's side in Australia next year.
According to Bloomberg, which spoke with Armstrong recently in Ireland:
"Armstrong
refused to rule out inviting former U.S. Postal teammate Floyd Landis
to the new team. Landis won the 2006 Tour de France, then lost the
title for doping.
News reports out of England today suggest that Semenya showed elevated levels of testosterone in a drug test conducted prior to the world championships which prompted the the IAAF into a gender inquiry.
Is Stephen Colbert of Comedy Centrals Colbert Report a runner?
Don't know.
But the TV comedian will soon have a treadmill named after him circling the earth.
It was supposed to be a new module at the International Space Station, but instead NASA choose to name a new treadmill (the second one to be installed at the space station) after Colbert calling it the:
