Stage 9 of the of the Tour de France will feature a classic climb that has been part of the race since the early 1900s. Col du Tourmalet (elevation 6,795 feet), the second “hors categorie” (the most difficult) climb in three days will hit the riders hard at about 45 miles into the stage.
The riders will already have had their legs tested on the first climb of the day by the much smaller Col d'Aspin (elevation, 4,787 feet) about 30 miles into the stage.
