Can Chris McCormack defend his Kona crown this weekend?
That seems to be the question on everyone's mind as we get closer to race day.
But this year the competition may be some of the toughest of recent times. The top pro triathletes from Europe, Australia, and the United States are all fit, fast, and ready to rumble.
Recently British triathlon web site Tri247.com took a closer look at this year's pro field and wrote:
"Reigning Ironman World Champion. Even if Macca never did another triathlon, he would quite rightly be considered a legend of the sport. ITU World Champion (1997), multiple World Cup winner, five-time Ironman Australia winner, multiple victories at Quelle Challenge Roth and wins at virtually every major non-drafting race on the calendar. This season he has shown little weakness either, utilising great tactics to win at Wildflower, and a stunning victory at Ironman Germany against a stacked pro field, recording another sub-eight hour time.
Hawaii has been a tougher nut for Chris to crack though, and after several failed attempts on the big island, he has been on an upward curve since 2005 with sixth / second / first. Interestingly, he also improved his run split each year: 2:49 / 2:46 / 2:42."
